Abstract

This study aims to determine growth performance and amino acid profiles of milkfish (Chanos-chanos) fed with sea grapes meal as a substitution of soybean meal in the diet. Four experimental diets were prepared to contain based on percentage substitution of soybean meal (SM) with Caulerpa meal (CM) in the diet : 100% SM and 0% CM (Diet A), 75% SM and 25% CM (Diet B), 50% SM and 50% CM (Diet C) and 25% SM and 75% CM (Diet D).  A total of 120 milk fish juvenile (Initial weight : 1,06 ± 0,12 g ) were distributed into 12 aquariums (10 fish/aquarium) with sized of 35 × 34 × 40 cm and designed by using   a recirculation water system  and filled with filtered sea water (salinity, 32 ± 1,2 ppt). The fish were fed with test diet three times a day ( 07.00 a.m , 12.00 a.m and 05.00 p.m). Some parameters observed were weight gain (WG), specific growth rate (SGR), survival rate (SR), feed conversion ratio (FCR), feed efficiency (FE), feed consumption (FC) and protein retention (PR) and amino acid contents in the fish body. The results showed that the WG, SGR and FCR of the fish were ranged between 0.15 to 0.23 g,  0.56 to 0.83%, and 4.34. – 9.87, respectively. The FE, FC and PR of the fish were 15.75 – 24.25%, 15.90 – 16.62 g;  0.76 – 1.92%, respectively. The survival rate of the fish were ranged  between 70 to 83.33%.  The highest amino acid type changed in the fish body was  lysine ( 97.82%). This study concluded that substitution 50% soybean meal with sea grapes al in the diet could improve the growth and amino acid content (lysine) of milk fish.
